empower. elevate. educate

In 2004, Alisha began traveling, living, working and volunteering in many parts of the world very different than her own.  When she lived in Northern Chile near the border of Bolivia teaching English as a Second Language, her desire and enthusiasm to learn about the world were unleashed.  Being lost in translation, being out of the comforts of western society, and seeing real issues in the world didn’t scare her. It challenged her.

TO SEE MORE, LEARN MORE, DO MORE.

In 2011, she spent almost two years volunteering around the world learning from various NGO’s and nonprofit organizations doing amazing work on the ground in Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, South Sudan, Uganda, India, and Indonesia. During this time, she gained a tremendous level of understanding about the hardships, the cultures, and the people. For her, it was about gaining an understanding that one cannot possibly have without actually standing on the same soil. Understanding she could not have had without becoming a part of lives, hearing stories, and connecting with people in the communities in which she worked.

In the end, we will conserve only what we love;

we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.

Since launching the Kikulu Foundation in 2012, Alisha's work has focused on supporting education and creating opportunity for women and children. Women and children who are gifted and lack the opportunity and support but possess intelligence, determination, and perseverance.

To date the Kikulu Foundation has provided more than $50,000 towards education initiatives for children in rural Uganda, giving hundreds of young students an opportunity to reach their potential.

In addition to the Kikulu Foundation, Alisha works full-time in the biotechnology and health & wellness space. Without the dedication of her working Board of Directors, the work of the Kikulu Foundation would not be able to impact so many students.
